Johnson’s practice is concerned with establishing otherwise veiled relationships between architecture, technology and cultural identity. He primarily uses computer modelling and rendering tools as a platform to explore moments of cultural transition and crossover. He views computer generated imagery – caught as it is between a hobbyist and industrial activity – as an instance of this, where two seemingly disparate applications cross into each other, making the distinction between play and work difficult to discern. These tensions form the backdrop to a practice concerned with how the reproduction and representation of objects and architecture can alter how we perceive and define both culture and our relationship to it.
